The Basics… MY TOP 3!!!

I have been asked to share some of my secrets when it comes to getting in shape, staying in shape, and getting pounds off. Now these are just 3 of my personal simple tip suggestions I live by and work for me, take em or leave em (; This entry will just cover some basic tips, later on I will upload some vlogs on training workouts or routines. 1st!!! LOL yeah it’s a big picture but that’s because it is so important! WATER…H20! I carry it with me at all times, many people don’t realize how important your water intake is. You have to drink water for your body to start losing fat, I drink at least a gallon a day. Yes, it’s hard and you will have to pee all the time, but that’s a good thing! Your body is working more efficiently, water helps to correctly process vitamins and minerals throughout your body, helps your digestive system, hair, nails, etc. Not to mention how your performance will decrease drastically the more dehydrated you are. There is much more I could go on forever, just make sure your getting the right amount of water intake. I’m doing 3, so here is #2! YUP peanut butter, but wait what is different here? If you guessed NO high fructose corn syrup then hug yourself, you are correct. Just check the nutrition label and if you do not see HFCS then you should be in the clear, and just a reminder HFCS=NASTY fat we don’t want or need, got it. Wow that sounded kinda mean but its sooo true. Moving on… LAST BUT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO LEAST…. I LOVVEEE SHRIPmmm N Veggies!!!- If you don’t there are other options just don’t rain on our (shrimp lovers) parade right now… k thanks (; As some of you may know shrimp has a good amount of lean protein, and it’s a source of an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory nutrient. Soo what does that mean, yea I eat em in a preparation of pre and post leg day, haahhaa ha (painful, nervous, laugh). This was fun, share below! Either that or enter your hater mail (; LoVE...

Road Trip Back to Cali (Part I)

Transitioning out of the Marine Corps is a crazy adventure, especially when you are traveling about 3,000 miles across the country!  Over the course of 11 days Megan and I hit up North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and last but not least California.  Here is just a glimpse of the wild ride.. Megan and I left Virginia in the dark on a Monday night, making our way down to the great state of Georgia in our new home– a Penske moving truck. Once there, we stayed with the wonderful Lockhart family.  The combo of training with George and eating Heather’s amazing food made it a great stop.  We couldn’t have been more thankful for a warm cozy bed and friendly faces after our first full day on the road.  And check out George’s awesome parking skills!  “Centimeters!” Next stop NASHVILLE, TN!  After a few hours on the road, we made it to Nashville just in time to check out the nightlife.  This picture was taken in Layla’s Bluegrass Inn where license plates from all across the country hang from the ceiling.  Another favorite was Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. Nashville is definitely one of the most beautiful cities we have ever seen, and the people are just too sweet.  If you’re ever there for breakfast check out the Loveless Cafe.  Their hashbrowns are amazing! Up next was Memphis, TN!  We made a quick stop at Gus’s Fried Chicken for some Southern cooking. After Memphis Megan and I had a looong drive to Midwest City, Oklahoma.  We didn’t get to see any of Arkansas since it was dark out, but we were definitely grateful for all of the Love’s Gas Stations that kept us fueled with coffee and energy drinks!  And there are some pretty interesting items for sale in the rest stops along the way, like this sweet hat.. In Oklahoma we were lucky enough to stay with our good friend, Taylor Hood, and her super sweet and welcoming family.  (Who knew that Oklahomans had Southern accents?!)  Taylor took us to her favorite Mexican restaurant and gave us the grand tour of her hometown.  Since we were just minutes from downtown Oklahoma City, we visited the Capitol Building, which is really astonishing inside. See more about our visit in the Sooner State and the journey to Cali in Part II...

Road Trip to Cali Cali (Part II)

… Oklahoma continued! Here we are giving it up for the O-K! After the Capitol Building, Taylor took us to visit the site of the Oklahoma City Bombing, where a beautiful memorial has been erected.  My heart sank as I read the different plaques and Taylor explained exactly how the events of the day unfolded. We were so moved visiting the Memorial, and we can’t thank the White and Hood families enough for making our experience so memorable! As Megan and I were leaving Oklahoma, we hit the home stretch of the trip.  After 6 days of driving in a moving truck we were ready to get to California, but New Mexico had some plans of its own.  This is where we were faced with a wild snowstorm (snow in New Mexico, REALLY?) and saw several tractor trailers jackknifed and turned over on the sides of the highway.  From about 9pm until 5am we creeped through the snow-capped mountains and icy roads until we reached Holbrook, Arizona.  It was pretty scary, but we made it!  We must have brought the cold weather with us from the East Coast. From Holbrook we trudged along through Arizona with one goal in mind— VEGAS. Our friends George Lockhart and Colton Smith both rocked their auditions for Fox’s reality show The Ultimate Fighter, and I got to take a little break from driving! Though we didn’t exactly hit up Las Vegas in the grand style of the boys of The Hangover, we had a great time!  How can you not when your day is filled with eating Papa Johns, renting $10 comedies OnDemand, and convincing people in the hotel that you just got married in a Vegas chapel? Last but certainly not least on our road trip, we made it to CALIFORNIA!!!  There is nothing more beautiful than seeing an In-N-Out sign on a sunny day… except for maybe this.. Overall we are so thankful we made it safely all the way from Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles! As I’m getting settled here in Cali, I’m checking out some local gyms and figuring out the next big steps as I look towards my next fight.  I may even be opening a new GYM with an exciting twist, so stay on the lookout 🙂 COMING SOON on KelseyDeSantis.com— East Coast v. West Coast — hmmm  Wawa or...

Marine Corps Birthday Ball

To all of my friends, family, supporters, and fellow Marines, Words can’t even describe the feelings I have after attending the Marine Corps Ball in Richmond this past weekend. I am so thankful to Justin Timberlake for accompanying me to the Ball and for his incredible post describing the events of the night https://www.facebook.com/notes/10150374155992098/ The experience he had is more than I could have ever hoped for, and I am truly humbled by the appreciation and respect that he has shown for the Marine Corps. The excitement for the Ball really set in once some of my best friends Charlsie Hoffman, Cody Tallent, Colton Smith, Megan Boyle (a.k.a. my Manager), Taylor Hood (my awesome hairstylist), Tyler Hood, and I started getting ready in the hotel. Just as thousands of other Marine Corps members, spouses, families, and friends do across the country every year to celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday, we put on our dress blues, tuxes, and gowns for the night ahead. After a few hours of prepping I said goodbye to the crew and nervously headed out of the hotel to meet Justin. Right off the bat I was greeted with a huge smile. Any uneasiness I had immediately went away as I realized what humble, good people Justin and those surrounding him are. Justin and I got a chance to talk about my Marine Corps experience, MMA career, and plans for the future as I get out of the Marine Corps at the end of the month. When Justin and I arrived at the Convention Center, we spent some time at a cocktail reception before heading into the ballroom. As the first ones in there we were able to sit and talk; and once the crowd began streaming in several people came up to meet J.T. and I, shake hands, and take some pictures – and he did it all without hesitation and with a huge smile on his face. At the same time, I couldn’t wait for my close friends to get there, and as I assured him several times, Table 10 would have it goin’ on! Once everyone was in the ballroom, the official ceremonies began. Within moments the room became silent as we watched  images and heard stories of Marines in World War II and September 11th during the Marine Corps Birthday Message. A presence, a tradition, and a sense community came over the room that set the tone for the night. I can’t even begin to express the emotions this footage aroused in every person in attendance, but I’m so thankful and blessed that I was able to share this experience with people so...
